What is Tenuate?

Tenuate is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. It is also known as an 'anorectic' or an 'anorexigenic' drug.

How does Tenuate work?

Tenuate stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite. Tenuate is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity. Tenuate may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this guide

Before Using

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Do not use this medicine if you are also taking guanadrel, guanethidine, furazolidone, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, atherosclerosis, or brain or spinal cord disorders. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take this medicine about 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime. Store this medicine at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is after 4 pm, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

How do the other diet drugs work?

Xenical 'zenical' works by preventing your body from absorbing up to 30% of the fat that you consume and has been approved for use for up to two years following stringent clinical trials.
Phentermine 'fentermin' works as an appetite suppressant It works by stimulating a gland, called the hypothalamus, and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite.
